We love pagan camping. and we want to talk about the fun stuff! How do you get the most out of camping with pagans? Look around our site to find tips from campers, extensive packing lists and more pagan workshops, rituals and activities than you can shake that stick you found on your nature walk at! But in this post it’s all about the pagan part of camping. While we are focusing on PCR specifically, in our experience, it translates to most community events.

Of course we are well aware that all of these suggestions are subjective. At any great community event you should be able to interact at a level that YOU are comfortable with. We love our introverts and our extroverts, and everything in between, you do you <3

Camping with Pagans is Fun and Educational

Come to have fun, meet new folks and learn new things. Any event you attend will have someone working hard to organize content you will love. Some workshops are relaxing, some spiritual, some educational, some wildly fun (like the chaos water ritual) and of course most are a mixture of those things. If you join to learn something new you will find a teacher passionate about the topic. If you join because it’s one of your favorite topics, you find a like minded individual (many in fact) to share ideas with. This is one of the absolute joys of camping with pagans.

At PCR we try to present a wide variety of paths and interests to our community. One unique aspect of PCR is our presenter policy. We are first and foremost a community gathering. We also firmly believe that our community is FULL of talented pagans with a lot to offer. Our presenter policy states that we select our presenters from event attendees. You will not find paid presenters at our event. We would love to have you share your interests through a presentation or workshop, please DO put in a submission for our next PCR

Unplug and Reconnect

Come to unplug from your everyday life for a day or three. There is nothing better than an outdoor excursion to help us unwind. Even if the camping location is still connected (so much of the world is these days) taking some time to let go of social media, emails, text messages and other concerns is a way to pause and connect with nature and the sacred and build community. Beginning in 2021 PCR was on a site that had great cellular reception and even wifi but we still still saw a lot less screen time from our campers.

Community Meal Times

One of the best parts of camping with pagans (or anyone really) is the communal work of preparing and eating meals. We encourage planned meal times at events because it creates a link to the mundane and hopefully reminds everyone that they have physical bodies to care for as well. When attending a festival or camping event plan to connect with your people through meal times. It can be a potluck situation, bring your bagged lunch, or a group cook over the fire but meal times can be as thoughtfully planned as everything else.

No matter how you plan on organizing meal time we encourage festival attendees to make it an enjoyable and scheduled part of your day.

Express Yourself

As folks under than pagan umbrella we may or may not get to show off our unique style in our mundane lives. Well folks, this is the place. Wear your flower crown, done your favorite robe, carry your walking stick, paint your face. Here you can be yourself. That extends to your camping space. Pagan it up! Set up an altar at your campsite, express your view of the sacred however elaborate or simple that might be. You know what else? If you are most comfortable in sneakers and jeans, that’s great too! These events are places we can just be in community together. Embrace it.
